Surveys of industries and companies

This section presents regular analytical surveys and reviews prepared by the Strategic and Industrial Research Department (SIRD) to enhance the Bank's project activities.

These include, in particular:

1) industry surveys reviewing the current condition, prospects and financial condition of key companies in the Bank's priority industries; and 2) news digests monitoring and analysing statistics, key events and institutional changes in the Bank's priority industries.

Industry surveys are published yearly for each of EDB's priority sectors. Since 2015 these publications examine the current condition of the respective industries (production, foreign trade, investments, etc). on the global and regional scale, monitor and review institutional changes and government industrial policies, analyse prospects for the industry, and monitor the financial condition and investment strategies of key companies in the industry. Geographically, each industry surveys cover all the Bank's member states.

The electric power sector is an industry comprising electricity and heat generation facilities operating with the use of primary fuel and energy resources such as gas, coal, nuclear fuel and renewable energy (solar, wind and water) sources, as well as transmission and sale infrastructure.

The chemical sector is an industry intended to process various types of natural raw materials, in particular hydrocarbons, into high value-added products. Depending on the end use of a product and processes involved, the sector can be divided into the production of mineral fertilisers, the petrochemical industry, pharmaceuticals, and the biochemical industry. The chemical sector makes a significant contribution to the EAEU economies, in particular Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, and has huge export potential. It has demonstrated considerable growth over the recent years.

Oil and gas is an industry producing and processing hydrocarbons used predominantly for the manufacture of fuel and as raw materials for the chemical sector. The main sub-sectors are oil and gas production and processing. The industry contributes considerably to the EAEU economies, in particular Russia and Kazakhstan that have major hydrocarbon fields. For this reason, oil and gas are among EDB's priority sectors.

EDB views transportations as a combination of sub-sectors ensuring the carriage of freight and passengers in an economy and including rail, motor, air, and internal water, sea and pipeline modes of transportation. The transport systems in the EAEU are very different in terms of the shares of various transport modes in overall freight and passenger traffic. In Armenia, Belarus and Russia, for example, pipelines account for a significant portion of the total freight traffic, while in Kazakhstan the prevailing mode of freight transportation are rail roads, and in the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan motor roads. Following the countries' priorities relating to the development of their transport sectors and the strengthening of integration processes in Eurasia, EDB may extend support to projects in any segment of freight and passenger transportation in its member states.

Infrastructure (except for electricity generation and distribution included in the power sector in the Bank's industry classification) is a combination of facilities and networks used to produce and distribute goods and services related to production and social activities. Infrastructure includes several segments such as transport infrastructure by transport modes (rail roads, motor roads and road structures, ground infrastructure for air transport, marine and river infrastructure, pipelines), social and household infrastructure (heat and gas, water supply and discharge, solid waste management), and telecommunications.
