EDB and Kazpost to Develop Digital Islamic Finance Platform for Instalment Purchases
Astana, 5 October 2026
The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) will provide Kazpost JSC with a US$100,000 grant from the Bank’s Technical Assistance Fund to develop a pilot digital Islamic finance platform. The service will enable retail customers to purchase goods online on an instalment basis using the Murabaha Islamic finance product and Kazpost’s international delivery service, Keruen.
The agreement was signed during the AI & Digital Bridge 2026 Forum in Astana by Ruslan Dalenov, Deputy Chairman of the EDB Management Board, and Bekezhan Zhakeev, Chairman of the Management Board of Kazpost JSC.
As part of the project, the parties plan to develop a digital platform and the methodology required to provide the Islamic finance product. The solution will bring together the purchase, financing and delivery of goods within a single digital platform.
The launch of the platform will expand Kazpost’s range of financial services and create an additional digital access channel to Islamic finance for individuals and businesses. In particular, the solution is designed for customers interested in purchasing goods on an instalment basis in accordance with Islamic finance principles.
“The EDB consistently supports the development of modern financial solutions that expand access to financing and create new opportunities for businesses and individuals across the region. Together with Kazpost, we are launching a pilot project that brings together digital technologies, Islamic financial instruments and the extensive infrastructure of the national postal operator. The EDB grant will support the development of the platform and the required methodology. Successful implementation of the pilot will lay the foundation for further scaling of digital Islamic financial services in the countries of the region, strengthening financial infrastructure and attracting additional investment,” said Ruslan Dalenov, Deputy Chairman of the EDB Management Board.
“For Kazpost, this project marks an important step in developing digital financial services and expanding the opportunities available to our customers. We are bringing together the purchase, financing and delivery of goods in a single solution, making access to Islamic finance more convenient and easier to understand for individuals and businesses. Our partnership with the EDB will allow us not only to test a new digital product, but also to lay the foundation for its further scaling. We see significant potential in this solution and expect that, over time, it will become one of the in-demand tools within Kazpost’s digital ecosystem,” said Bekezhan Zhakeev, Chairman of the Management Board of Kazpost JSC.
The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank Group under the Memorandum of Understanding between the EDB and the Islamic Development Bank Institute, signed in June 2024. The memorandum is aimed at developing Islamic finance in Central Asia.
