EDB Integration Barometer - 2012

23 September 2012

The EDB Centre for Integration Studies in cooperation with the Eurasian Monitor International Research Agency examined the approaches of population to regional integration. The project «EDB Integration Barometer» is based on a nationwide survey of over 13,000 respondents in 10 CIS countries and Georgia — from 950 to 2,000 respondents in each country.

The report presents the results of a comprehensive research study of public attitudes towards integration in the post-Soviet space. It is based on monitoring surveys of public opinion in former Soviet Union countries on a diverse range of issues, such as multilateral economic cooperation, interstate political relations, social and business contacts and cultural interactions. In particular, the research revealed a high public support for the establishment of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space, identified not only in the three member-countries, but also throughout the region, which have common border with the CU and the SES and which do not have it. A detailed picture of public attitudes, including the dynamics, fundamental regularities and forecasts of future developments in integration processes, as well as public evaluation of the degree of integration between the Eurasian countries are presented in the report.

Given the importance of the regular monitoring regarding public perception of integration processes in the region in question, the EDB Centre for Integration Studies experts to conduct these polls on a yearly basis.
