Almaty, 24 November 2011. Andrey Shirokov is appointed Director of the Eurasian Development Bank’s (EDB) representative office in Bishkek. He will organise the Bank’s operations in Kyrgyzstan, which joined the EDB in August 2011, and, first of all, the opening of the Bank’s representative office there, which is scheduled for the first quarter of 2012.
“In my opinion, the fact that Andrey Shirokov has joined our team can give a new impetus to our project work and enhance it with new ideas and activities,” said Igor Finogenov, Chairman of the EDB Executive Board. “We put many hopes on his unique experience, business acumen and ability to start projects from scratch. These are the qualities Andrey Shirokov will need to develop the Bank’s business in the Kyrgyz Republic, which has recently become the EDB’s fully-fledged member.”
Andrey Shirokov was born in 1975. He graduated from the Russian State Social University in 1997 and from the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University (Global Executive MBA, Durham, NC, USA) in 2007.
From 1998 to 2008, he worked at NOMOS Bank, where he started as a lead specialist of the Precious Metals Division (1998-2000) to become Vice-President for Medium-Sized Corporate Customers
(2006-2008). Between 2000 and 2006, he was Head of the Precious Metals Division. During that time, the bank has become a leader among operators and Russia’s largest exporter of precious metals. Andrey Shirokov was an arranger of the first syndicated loan from Western banks for Russian commercial banks for the financing of gold mining enterprises. He also organised financing of the first lease transaction to supply mining equipment for a gold mining company and of project financing for a Russian greenfield project to develop a precious metals deposit. At the same time, he arranged precious metals supplies to the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus and the Kazakhstan Mint, gold supplies to Ukraine, and the financing and purchase by NOMOS Bank of precious metals produced by Kyrgyzstan.
In 2009-2010 he was Deputy General Director at the ARLAN Investment Company where he managed a project to explore and develop a uranium deposit in Namibia in cooperation with the Atomredmetzoloto Holding (Rosatom) and VTB Capital Namibia.
In 2011, before he joined the EDB, Andrey Shirokov managed corporate business of Investtradebank as its Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board.
