EDB and ESCAP sign a memorandum of cooperation
Almaty, 21 November 2013. Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) signed a memorandum of cooperation today. The document was executed by Viktor Bolyasnikov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board at EDB, and Shun-ichi Murata, Deputy Executive Secretary at ESCAP.
The signature took place at the Economic Forum and the 8th session of the Governing Council of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) organised by ESCAP and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
«The signed memorandum lays the basis for our cooperation and will contribute to the further strengthening of regional economic integration, the development of trade infrastructure, the improvement of energy efficiency, the efficient use of water resources and environmental protection and the advancement of cooperation in other areas that are of mutual interest for the benefit of the countries of this region,» said Shun-ichi Murata. «ESCAP is entering into partnership with EDB in order to promote sustainable and comprehensive development in Central Asia.»
«EDB extends full support to ESCAP’s initiatives to strengthen cooperation in Central Asia in the water and energy sphere as well as in the transport and agrarian sectors,» stated Viktor Bolyasnikov. «I am convinced that the signature of the memorandum with ESCAP will help us expand cooperation and jointly develop new approaches to solving pressing environmental, water, energy and infrastructural problems in Central Asia and will promote sustainable development and economic integration in the region.»
