EDB and WB Discuss Economic Situation in Armenia

Moscow, 19 September 2011. A video conference was held on Friday, which linked the offices of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) in Moscow and Almaty with the offices of World Bank (WB) in Washington, Moscow, Yerevan and Tbilisi.

The EDB and WB experts discussed the problems of and prospects for Armenia’s post-crisis recovery and socioeconomic development. Armenia is a member of both international development banks and of the EurAsEC Anti-crisis Fund (ACF). The issue was discussed in the wider context of the economic situation in the Caucasus countries and Armenia’s regional economic cooperation with the EurAsEC member states and neighbouring countries.

The conference also discussed opportunities for cooperation and joint projects with this country.

The EDB was represented at the conference by Sergey Shatalov, Deputy Chairman of the EDB Executive Board, and specialists from the Research Department and the ACF Department. On the part of WB, the discussion was coordinated by Pedro Rodriguez, WB Lead Economist Caucasus Countries.

Talking about the discussion, Sergey Shatalov said that, “this video bridge has become one of the steps in implementing the Framework Cooperation Agreement between WB and the EDB, in the context of which both banks coordinate their research projects and anti-crisis recommendations for member states.”
