Almaty 15 November 2011. The Eurasian Development Bank’s (EDB) delegation met today with the representatives of the Kyrgyz government in Bishkek to discuss prospects for cooperation.
The EDB delegation was headed by Igor Finogenov, Chairman of the Executive Board. The participants on the Kyrgyz side were First Vice Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov, Finance Minister Melis Mambetzhanov and other officials.
The parties discussed the sectors for potential cooperation in Kyrgyzstan. These are, primarily, the development of power, transport infrastructure and agriculture, irrigation in particular. Omurbek Babanov told about the Programme for the
Mid-Term Economic Development Strategy of Kyrgyzstan until 2014, which includes forty national projects, and suggested the EDB to take part in financing some of them.
The parties also discussed further steps to open and ensure the work of the EDB representative office in Kyrgyzstan and possible research cooperation.
The Agreement between the EDB and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic on the EDB’s presence in the country has taken effect recently. It authorises the Bank to open its representative office in Bishkek and begin proactive work on investment projects in the country. In accordance with the agreement, the EDB, as an international organisation, has the status of an international legal entity with international legal capacity and the rights of a legal entity in the Kyrgyz Republic.
