EDB Co-Organises the Forum “Business in the Customs Union and Common Economic Space”

Almaty, 22 September 2011. The international business forum “Business in the Customs Union and Common Economic Space” was held in Almaty today. The event had been organised by the Eurasian Business Council and the Atameken Union, the National Economic Chamber of Kazakhstan. The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) co-organised the forum.

The forum was attended by representatives of the EurAsEC member and observer states, national ministries and authorities, business circles, financial institutions, the expert community, public organisations, industrial associations, and members of the EurAsEC Integration Committee and its Secretariat.

The forum discussed how to improve work and business cooperation in all the economic spheres in EurAsEC within the existing Customs Union and the forming Common Economic Space.

The main topics discussed included:

  • Integration from the Customs Union toward the Common Economic Space: objectives and problems of the business community;
  • Consistent tax, monetary, currency, financial and trade policies in the Customs Union and Common Economic Space;
  • Integration of transport, logistics and information infrastructure in the Customs Union and Common Economic Space;
  • Creation of a joint government support system to develop priority sectors and production, research and technological cooperation in Eurasia;
  • Competition in the Common Economic Space and EurAsEC; and
  • Innovation technologies for improving competition in the Customs Union and Common Economic Space.
