Moscow, 29 June 2011. The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) will increase the number of its members. At its session on Tuesday, the EDB Council unanimously approved joining the Kyrgyz Republic as a new member of the Bank.
“Kyrgyzstan’s joining the EDB will have a significant economic effect on the country and other member states of the Bank,” said Igor Finogenov, Chairman of the EDB Executive Board. “The EDB will bring to Kyrgyzstan its resource base and experience in project performance, especially since Kyrgyzstan is a member of the EurAsEC Anti-Crisis Fund and has access to its resources. As a fully-fledged member of the EDB, Kyrgyzstan will be able to significantly improve the level of its economic security, economic diversification, and job creation.”
“In Kyrgyzstan, we will develop not only classic project financing schemes, but also credit facilities for small and medium-sized businesses that are numerous in this country,” emphasised Igor Finogenov.
Kyrgyzstan expressed its wish to join the EDB in February 2010 by sending a respective application to the Bank.
