EDB ESG Managing Director speaks at CAREC Senior Officials’ Meeting

Astana, 31 July 2024. EDB’s Conrad Albrecht, Managing Director of Directorate of Sustainability, took part at CAREC Senior Officials’ Meeting and Development Partners Session on May 30–31 2024. The meeting was organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which is leading CAREC Secretariat and organizes institutional events, such as ministerial conferences, senior officials' meetings, and sector and sector coordinating committees' meetings as well as liaising with partner governments and institutions.

“The EDB is a key partner of choice for both private business, financial institutions and governmental agencies for the Eurasian region and we are committed in fostering multilateral partnerships. Our mission shares a common orientation CAREC 2030 Strategy goals and we are eager to provide institutional support and technical assistance: by structuring investment projects, preparing feasibility studies and pre-project documentation, conducting market research and providing trainings and professional development of staff involved in the implementation of investment projects” – said Mr. Albrecht.

The CAREC Secretariat presented the overall progress made to date in implementing the CAREC 2030 Strategy and midterm review of the strategic framework of the CAREC Program. The meeting also included an open discussion of initiatives from development partners in support of the implementation of CAREC 2030 Strategy, to make sure it falls in alignment with the needs and priorities of the organization’s member countries.

As was supported by all CAREC member countries, the main thoughts and takeaways of Senior Officials’ Meeting and Development Partners Session lie in the importance of institutional and regional partnerships, integration and dialogues, research and technical assistance, institutional support, co-financing, capacity building and mobilizing resources.

For example, China expressed a call for co-financing between the institutions, Tajikistan- pointed out need for increased climate scientific and financial research and digitalization, Uzbekistan mention about transport corridors and touristic potential of the country, Pakistan welcomed any new climate facilities and Turkmenistan mentioned about need to strengthen water resources management mechanism and expansion of PPP projects.
