EDB-funded modernisation of the Kant Cement Plant successfully completed in the Kyrgyz Republic

16 June 2025

Bishkek, 16 June 2025. A ceremony to launch the new process line at the Kant Cement Plant, the construction of which began in spring 2024, was held today in the Kyrgyz Republic. One year later, the plant begins operations on a renewed, environmentally friendly and energy-efficient platform.

The project involved the construction of a dry-process clinker burning line with a daily capacity of 2,500 tonnes. The equipment was supplied and installed by China’s Beijing Triumph International Engineering Co., Ltd. (part of Sinoma Holding, the world’s largest integrated solutions provider in the cement industry).

The total project value was approximately CNY 439 million. The EDB provided around US $50 million. All construction works were completed ahead of schedule and within the approved budget.

The new line will enable the plant to significantly improve production efficiency and reduce costs. In particular, it will substantially reduce coal consumption compared with the technology previously in use. This has a direct impact on pollutant emissions, making production more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

In addition, the upgrade will help reduce production costs, strengthening the plant’s competitive position in the region it serves (the capital and northern regions of the Kyrgyz Republic). The project promotes regional cooperation by enhancing mutual trade and investment ties within Central Asia.

“The EDB readily supports projects aimed at sustainable development and the technological upgrade of the region’s industry. The modernisation of the Kant Cement Plant is a clear example of how the synergies of financing provided by an international development institution, effective management and advanced technology help achieve environmental goals and enable economic growth. We congratulate our partners on the successful project completion in the interests of the Kyrgyz Republic and the whole region,” said Nurlan Akmatov, Director of the EDB Representative Office in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The project demonstrates the high level of industrial cooperation across Eurasia and underscores the EDB’s strategic role in the sustainable development of manufacturing in its member countries.

Established in 1964, the Kant Cement Plant produces four types of cement that meet international standards. The company employs around 800 people. Its products are used in the country’s key infrastructure projects, from the Naryn HPP Cascade to dams and airports across the Kyrgyz Republic.
