EDB Holds International Conference on Eurasian Integration in Almaty

01 October 2009

On 1-2 October 2009 Almaty will host the 4th EDB International Conference on Eurasian integration. This event will be attended by representatives of governmental agencies, researchers and specialists from EurAsEC and CIS member states and their bodies, and other countries and international development institutions.

The participants will discuss the problems, trends and prospects of future co-operation of Eurasian countries in crisis conditions and develop recommendations on the priority areas of this co-operation, especially innovations and investments.

The current crisis has a systemic nature; it affects most industries and the social sector in every country and influences the structure of the global economy and principles of international economic relations. Its effect on members of integration groups in Eurasia has specific features, and this warrants efforts to develop common approaches towards overcoming its consequences and diversifying national economies by introducing advanced technology and competitive products.

At a regional level, the system of anti-crisis measures includes implementing priority investment projects and ensuring that government funds are used efficiently. An important role in fostering integration and overcoming the consequences of the crisis will be played by the newly founded EurAsEC Anti-crisis Fund whose assets will be managed by the EDB.

These EDB conferences held on a regular basis allow economic trends to be identified, new theoretical developments in economic sciences to be discussed, and recommendations on the priority areas of integration to be proposed.
