EDB International Conference on Eurasian Integration Over

05 October 2009

On 1-2 October 2009 Almaty hosted the 4th EDB International Conference on Eurasian integration.

This event was attended by representatives of governmental agencies, researchers and specialists from EurAsEC and CIS member states.

The participants noted that the current crisis has a systemic nature, influences the structure of the global economy and principles of international economic relations, and affects most industries and the social sector in EurAsEC and CIS countries.

In the participants’ opinion, the development of common approaches towards overcoming the consequences of the crisis in EurAsEC economies calls for further diversification of national economies by introducing advanced technology.

At a regional level, the system of anti-crisis measures includes implementing investment projects aimed at ensuring that the industrial potential is used efficiently, saving resources and energy, and implementing innovative technology.

An important role in fostering integration and overcoming the consequences of the crisis will be played by the newly founded EurAsEC Anti-crisis Fund whose assets will be co-managed by the EDB.

Based on the discussion of the urgent problems, trends and prospects of future co-operation of EurAsEC countries, the participants formulated recommendations with an emphasis on investments and innovations.

The materials of the conference will be published in the EDB’s magazine Evraziyskaya ekonomicheskaya integratsiya and also made available on the Bank’s website.
