EDB Received Observer Status in EurAsEC

13 October 2008

At the session of the EurAsEc Inter-state Council held on Friday in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the heads of the Community’s six member states decided to grant the EDB the observer status in this international organisation.

This status may be granted to a state or an international (inter-state) organisation at request. An observer may attend and speak at open sessions of EurAsEC bodies, and receive open documents and resolutions adopted by such bodies.

The participation of EDB representatives in special EurAsEC programmes for the regional, interbank, credit and financial co-operation of the EurAsEC member countries will enable the Bank to co-ordinate its investment activities with EurAsEC and its members, and facilitate joint regional initiatives being implemented in the interests of EDB and EurAsEC member countries.

EurAsEC is an international economic organisation entrusted with forming common external borders of its member states and developing common foreign trade policy, tariffs, prices and other components of a common market. To date, EurAsEC comprises Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The observer status was granted to Moldova and Ukraine in 2002 and to Armenia in 2003.
