EFSD's mission visits Armenia to discuss the Irrigation System Enhancement Project

Moscow, 18 November 2016. From 14 to 17 November 2016, the joint mission of Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), as the Resources Manager of the Eurasian Fund for Stabilisation and Development (EFSD), and the World Bank visited Armenia to discuss implementation of the Irrigation System Enhancement Project. The EFSD and World Bank's experts visited project sites to assess the condition of irrigation systems in Goght, the right- and left-side Kassakh canals, the discharge canal of the Aratashen pumping station, and the Shakh-Arkh canal.

During the mission, EDB's delegation headed by Alexei Cherekayev, head of the project team, met with Arsen Harutyunyan, Chairman of the State Water Management Committee of Armenia.

"Eurasian Development Bank, as the EFSD Resources Manager, is keen to see the launching of design and construction under the Irrigation System Enhancement Project as soon as possible," Alexei Cherekayev said at the meeting with the Chairman of the State Water Management Committee.

The visitors also had a meeting with Vahan Martirosyan, Minister of Transport and Communications of Armenia, where both parties expressed their interest in continuing the North-South Road Corridor Project (Phase 4).

The Eurasian Fund for Stabilisation and Development (EFSD) amounting to US $8.513 billion was formed on 9 June 2009 by the governments of the six countries. The objectives of the EFSD are to assist its member countries in overcoming the consequences of the global financial crisis, ensure their economic and financial stability, and foster integration processes in the region. The EFSD member countries signed the Fund Management Agreement with EDB giving it the role of the EFSD Resources Manager.
