First EDB Environmental Patrol in Tamgaly Tas Completed

10 August 2011

Almaty, 10 August 2011. The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) has had its first environmental patrol. In the early morning, four buses departed from the Bank’s headquarters to Tamgaly Tas at the Ili River to clean this natural and archaeological site from garbage.

The initiative’s motto is Clean up after Yourself.

Forty-six employees of the Bank’s headquarters in Almaty, twenty representatives of the Kapchagay Akimat, including schoolchildren from the town’s environmental brigade, and journalists from Kazakhstan’s leading media took part in the EDB’s initiative.

“We hope that our action helped draw people’s attention to how they should behave towards nature, environmental security, and the preservation of unique natural sites for future generations,” said Igor Finogenov, Chairman of the EDB Executive Board. He also took part in the initiative together with other members of the Executive Board.

This is a pilot project implemented by the Bank’s headquarters in Almaty. Similar initiatives are planned in all the EDB member states: Russia, Belarus, Armenia, and Tajikistan, because the issue of environmental preservation is significant throughout the post-Soviet space.
