New horizons of digital transformation: the EDB Fund for Digital Initiatives, ITU and Kazakhstan’s NIT launch the innovative GovStack project

Astana, 29 March 2024. Dauren Rakhimzhanov, Managing Director of the Eurasian Development Bank’s (EDB) Directorate of Digital Initiatives, participated in the United Nations International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Regional Development Forum for CIS, organised with support from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry.

During the forum, the EDB Fund for Digital Initiatives, ITU and Kazakhstan’s National Information Technology announced strategic cooperation in developing the innovative regional GovStack project.

GovStack is an initiative aimed at creating an integrated technological platform for the development of e-government technologies in Central Asia and the Caucasus. The project aims to enhance the efficiency and transparency of public administration in the countries within the region, ensuring broader access to public services through state-of-the-art digital platforms. It will enable governments and public institutions in the region to access the best knowledge, resources and tools necessary for successful digital transformation.

The event was attended by Bagdat Musin, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry; Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau; Michaela Friberg-Storey, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan; Alexey Borodin, Director-General of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications; representatives from ITU member states, and other participants.

The EDB Fund for Digital Initiatives was established in June 2020. Its objective is to assist the EDB member states in creating digital transformation tools and practices by integrating their information resources and participating in the development and financing of projects. The Fund’s flagship project is the COVID-19-Free Travel mobile app used in nine CIS countries.
