15 October 2021

Moscow, 14 October 2021. Nikolai Podguzov, Chairman of the Eurasian Development Bank’s (EDB) Management Board, took part in a videoconference of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

The meeting brought together the heads of state of the Eurasian Economic Union’s (EAEU) member countries (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia), the presidents of the EAEU observer states (Cuba and Uzbekistan), and the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission to discuss the global climate agenda and the transition to the second stage in the formation of the EAEU unified markets in oil and oil products.

Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, noted in his speech the success of the COVID-19 Free Travel app developed by the EDB Fund for Digital Initiatives.

“Digital technologies do much to help adapt our countries’ economies and our lives in general to the circumstances created by the spread of the coronavirus. The COVID-19 Free Travel mobile app developed in Russia helps a lot to restore freedom of movement across the EAEU member states. It is reliable and convenient, and people came to appreciate its value. Our neighbours – Azerbaijan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan – joined this project as well,” said Vladimir Putin.

COVID-19 Free Travel is the first project by the EDB Fund for Digital Initiatives. Its aim is to allow people to move freely and safely between countries during the coronavirus pandemic. The app reduces the risk of spreading the disease and offers a reliable control system for cross-border travel. Passengers from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan must use the COVID-19 Free Travel app when entering Russia.

The agenda of the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council included ten topics concerning the further development of the union.
