Almaty, 12 October 2011. On 13 October, sixth Eurasian Development Bank’s (EDB) international conference “EurAsEC Customs Union and Common Economic Space: Prospects for Further Integration” will start in Almaty. The Bank holds conferences on Eurasian integration every year. They are traditionally attended by heads of state authorities of the EDB member states, leading researchers and experts from EurAsEC, the CIS and foreign countries, and mass media. There has been an increasing interest in the forum on the part of the executive bodies of EurAsEC and the CIS, researchers and the general public and the level of its participants has grown.
The conference will discuss economic integration between the EurAsEC and CIS member states, the prospects for expanding the Customs Union and establishing the Common Economic Space (CES), the activities of the EurAsEC Anti-crisis Fund, and joint anti-crisis strategies in the region.
Significant attention will be paid to the improvement of laws and technical standards within the framework of the CES, transport infrastructure integration, and environmental and social aspects of financial institutions’ investments in the region. Theme sections and discussion groups will be organised for the participants to share their opinions and prepare recommendations.
“The Eurasian Development Bank has been established to foster integration processes in its member states through its investment and lending activities and research. We are an integration bank,” says Vladimir Yasinsky, Member of the EDB Executive Board and Head of Research. “Our conferences are one of our special research tools as they attract leading experts and heads of authorities from our member states and integration institutions. For this reason, they are an optimal forum where specialists can present and discuss a variety of issues relating to Eurasian integration and influence the countries’ approaches to it.”
The most interesting and significant reports will be published in the EDB’s Eurasian Economic Integration Journal and
Eurasian Integration Yearbook.
