15 February 2018

Moscow, 15 February 2018. The Eurasian Development Bank and Vodokanal signed a loan agreement to finance construction of water intake and purification facilities in Yakutsk. The project is part of the programme to reconstruct water conditioning facilities in the city.

The document was executed by Timur Abdullakhanov, Managing Director and Head of Transport and Infrastructure at the EDB, and Gavril Levin, General Director of Vodokanal. A RUB 1.3 billion loan will be provided for ten years from the signature date.

The project finances completion of the construction of water intake and purification facilities with a total capacity of 110,000 cu m a day in Yakutsk.

It aims to enhance the quality of water supply and sewage services under respective standards and raise water supply capacity to meet demand resulting from new construction and expansion of the city. The project will help to introduce state-of-the-art technology and reduce operational costs.

“The project is in line with the Bank’s mission and strategy in that it creates conditions for Yakutsk’s socioeconomic development,” Timur Abdullakhanov commented. “The investment project will help to solve key development tasks and improve water supply and sewage services in the city of Yakutsk.”

Gavril Levin said that, “the construction of water intake and purification facilities that are of critical social importance to Yakutsk will solve the city’s problems associated with annual increases in the demand for drinking water and the need to supply people with quality drinking water that meets sanitary and epidemiological standards.”
