The EDB extends KZT 14.6 billion for Batys Transit’s PPP projects

07 February 2019

Astana, 7 February 2019. The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and Batys Transit signed a KZT 14.6 loan agreement to finance Batys Transit’s public-private partnership projects.

Three PPP projects are planned to be financed: construction and operation of the 110/35/10 kV Akzhar substation with a 110 kV feeder in Shymkent; construction and operation of street lighting grids in Atyrau (189 streets); and construction and operation of street lighting grids in Atyrau (three streets and two highways). The projects will replace obsolete power supply and street lighting infrastructure and create new facilities.

The Akzhar substation will supply electricity to microdistricts located in the southwestern part of Shymkent. The new street lighting grids in Atyrau (Phase 2 and 3) will be built in the streets that have not had street lighting before.

“Batys Transit is the first successful public-private partnership in Kazakhstan and the agreement signed continues our long way of cooperation. The investment projects will be implemented in our priority sectors – the power sector and utilities. This project is of social importance as it will improve city infrastructure by ensuring stable power supplies,” Vsevolod Smakov, Head of Projects at the EDB, commented.
