The EDB finances the construction and operation of hospitals in two cities in Kazakhstan

21 April 2021

Nur-Sultan, 21 April 2021. The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and RenEll Co. Ltd. signed a mandate agreement to construct and operate general hospitals in two cities in Kazakhstan, one of which will be Kokshetau. The second one will be identified before 30 June 2021. The mandate agreement confirms the parties’ interest in arranging funding for the construction of hospitals to best international standards as soon as possible.

The 630-bed general hospital in Kokshetau is scheduled to open by the end of 2023. It will have cardiology, neurology, oncology, obstetric and other departments, which is expected to improve access to new medical services.

Ronesans Holding, one of RenEll’s partners, has experience in building large medical facilities. The hospitals built by Ronesans Holding in Turkey have 9,500 beds, which is 32% of the bed capacity in all PPP-built hospitals. These hospitals also meet high standards of medical care.

“In February 2021, the EDB and RenEll signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation to implement seven projects to construct and operate general hospitals in Kazakhstan. The mandate agreement authorises the EDB to arrange funding for the projects, and we are starting to work, including on finding the sources of finance” said Amangeldy Issenov, Deputy Chairman of the EDB Management Board.

The projects to construct and operate general hospitals in Kazakhstan are envisioned by the State Programme for Healthcare Development in 2020–2025 and are expected to have a significant socioeconomic effect.
