The EDB Fund for Digital Initiatives, the EEC and the Eurasian expert community discuss key digital transformation trends in the EAEU agro-industrial sector

Almaty, 3 February 2025. The international Digital Almaty 2025 Forum hosted a panel session titled “Digitalization as a Success Factor in Enhancing the Competitiveness of the Agro-Industrial Sector of the EAEU.” The discussion was moderated by Dauren Rakhimzhanov, Managing Director of the Directorate of Digital Initiatives at the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).

In his opening speech, Dauren Rakhimzhanov emphasised that digitalisation is not just a trend but a necessity for sustainable agricultural development. He outlined key discussion points, including the impact of digitalisation on the agro-industrial sector, successful cases of technology implementation, strategic plans of governments and businesses, and opportunities for integration and partnerships to accelerate digital transformation within the EAEU.

The session highlighted projects in water management, digital traceability of farm animals, joint digital solutions in agriculture, and the need to analyse best practices across member states.

It was noted that the EDB Fund for Digital Initiatives takes a comprehensive approach to digital transformation in the agro-industrial sector, focusing on:

  • establishing and developing interstate digital platforms;

  • supporting national digitalisation projects in agriculture; and

  • investing in promising innovative digital initiatives.

The Fund employs a wide range of project tools, from lending and equity participation to competitions, grants for integration projects, research and consulting services.

The EDB Fund for Digital Initiatives was established in June 2020. Its objective is to assist the EDB member states in creating digital transformation tools and practices by integrating their information resources and participating in the development and financing of projects. The Fund’s flagship project is the COVID-19-Free Travel mobile app used in nine CIS countries.
