The EDB is working to extend US $100 million to Somon Air, a Tajikistan-based airline, to purchase two aircraft

Almaty, 7 February 2024. The Eurasian Development Bank is working to provide US $100 million in funding to Somon Air, a Tajikistan-based airline, to acquire two Boeing 737 aircraft.

According to Somon Air’s fleet expansion strategy, the airline plans to procure two aircraft of this model in 2024. Somon Air’s passenger traffic has been on the rise since 2020 and is anticipated to surpass pre-pandemic levels, reaching 787,600 passengers in 2023 compared to 672,500 in 2019.

Presently, the airline operates its primary passenger flights with a fleet consisting of six Boeing 737 aircraft of various modifications.

By 2026, Somon Air plans to broaden its geographical reach with new flights routes: from Khujand to Jeddah, Dubai, Urumqi and Istanbul in 2024; from Dushanbe to Antalya, Riyadh and Sharm el-Sheikh in 2024; to Seoul, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Guangzhou, Tbilisi, Mashhad, Paris and Bangkok in 2025; and to New York, London, Beijing, Madrid, Vienna, Tel Aviv, Kyiv, Milan, Toronto and Warsaw in 2026.
