The EDB takes part in KAZAKHSTAN ENERGY WEEK 2019/12th KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum

01 October 2019

Nur-Sultan, 30 September 2019. A delegation of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB, Bank) headed by Amangeldy Issenov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board, took part in KAZAKHSTAN ENERGY WEEK 2019/12th annual KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum in Nur-Sultan.

Amangeldy Issenov spoke at the Green Finance and Green Economy session where he noted that the Bank paid significant attention to projects involving the use of renewable energy sources. In particular, the EDB increased its participation in such projects from 80 MW in 2017 to 120 MW in 2019. It also developed a financing programme for the renewable energy sector.

Energy is one of the EDB’s priorities determined by its strategy for 2018-2022. The Bank’s portfolio currently comprises nine renewable energy projects, and three more are under consideration.

“We believe that renewable energy will boost economic development in Kazakhstan and other EAEU countries. The Bank is ready to support medium- and large-sized energy projects, including financing for the winners of renewable energy project auctions,” Amangeldy Issenov stated.

The forum discussed important concerns of the world’s energy market in the era of global challenges, the geography and structure of energy demand, as well as energy dependence, energy security, and environmental issues relevant to the sector. The demand for energy, including predominantly conventional sources such as oil and gas, has been growing worldwide. The forum’s panel sessions focused on discussing the development of existing energy sources and the search for new ones, as well as opportunities to ensure their stable supplies to consumers.
