The EDB takes part in the construction of Turkistan International Airport
Nur-Sultan, 29 September 2020. The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) took part in the public-private partnership project to construct, operate, and manage Turkistan International Airport. The Bank’s delegation headed by Nikolai Podguzov, Chairman of the Management Board, attended the ceremony of airport opening by the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.
“The construction of an airport in Turkistan is one of the most ambitious transport infrastructure developments in Kazakhstan. We were pleased to take part in this project to build a new airport in Kazakhstan, which was the first such project for the EDB. We think that the new airport will support not only Kazakhstan’s plans for the development of an integrated transport system in the country, but also the ongoing global investment programme,” said Nikolai Podguzov, Chairman of the EDB Management Board.
Tourism is among promising economic development areas in Turkestan Region that has a unique geographical position, favourable natural and climatic conditions, basic recreation infrastructure, and rich historical and cultural heritage. Tourism is also expected to boost the development of urban infrastructure as well as transport and logistics in the region.
