Project in Partnership with UN ESCAP to Strengthen Cross-Border Energy Cooperation in Central Asia
Project description
The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), is initiating a regional project to enhance cross-border energy cooperation across Central Asia.
This initiative focuses on building practical knowledge and strengthening professional networks among energy sector specialists from five countries in the region. The project is financially supported by UN ESCAP and the EDB Technical Assistance Fund.
This program supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 7:
“Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”
Project objectives:
Improve the qualifications of power dispatch specialists
Enhance energy systems management and operational efficiency
Strengthen regional ties and technical cooperation among national energy operators
Figures and facts
Central Asian economies are growing at 6% yearly. To do that, they need not only larger volumes of electric power but also stability of supply. Energy systems, working in parallel mode, increase their efficiency at the national level and manage spikes of demand, thus ensuring stable supply of electric power. Moreover, cooperation leads to less carbon emissions as an important by-product. Our project not only contributes to the experts' professional growth, but also lays foundations for long-term cooperation between the countries of the region.
